(all tempranillo, aged in new French oak for 26 months): Brilliant ruby. A heady bouquet displays scents of red fruit preserves, candied flowers and Asian spices, with a bright mineral overtone. Sweet, penetrating black raspberry and rose pastille flavors show a suave blend of richness and vivacity, with tangy acidity adding spine. Finishes smooth and long, with fully absorbed tannins and lingering spiciness.

The 2005 El Puntido Gran Reserva is the first vintage for this wine, and the difference between this Gran Reserva and the regular Puntido is that the grapes are selected from the eastern-most part of the vineyard close to Laguardia, which is more exposed to the north winds and gives a wine of marked tannins that needs more time in barrel and is therefore ideal to create a Gran Reserva. This wine ages for 24-26 months in barrel and is kept in bottle for a further five years. The color hints at a very young wine, with no brick or orange shades whatsoever. The nose is a lot more developed, with strong aromatics, notes of beef blood, iron, tea leaves, paprika, licorice and raw meat. The oak has been completely absorbed and only some spicy aromas remain. The palate reveals a powerful wine with fully resolved tannins and great acidity and tertiary flavors. A great modern-classical Rioja that should give many years of pleasure. A wine for food. Drink 2014-2030.

This red is supple and silky, with subtle but intense flavors of berries, licorice, vanilla and smoke. It's lively, with gentle but supportive tannins and a perfumed finish. Graceful and expressive.
