2005 Domaine Vincent Girardin Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY / PULIGNY-MONTRACHET
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 93
($290) Highly complex aromas of apple, spices and wet stone. Opulent yet dry, with very ripe but backward flavors of wet stone, spices and earth. This is more austere than the Bienvenue despite its sheer size. Opens out impressively on the back half, showing outstanding volume. But this will need time.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: September/October 2007Burghound | Rating: 93
An airy and elegant floral and spice nose that is distinctly higher-pitched is trimmed in a deft touch of wood and while the oak is more prominent on the palate, it doesn't seem to unduly compromise the detail or delineation of the minerally medium weight flavors that are delicious, classy and persistent. There is a citrus component to the finish, which adds lift. In short, excellent if not mind blowing and a good deal more forward than a classically structured Chevy.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 3rd Quarter, 2007
Styled by Vincent Girardin, these white wines display their quality in finesse, aromatic purity, and harmony between richness and vibrancy. Girardins red wines are profound and intense, balancing tannin and ripe fruit. Vincent Girardin started in 1982 with just two hectares of vineyards. After assuming responsibility for his father's vineyards and exhibiting uncanny business acumen, he turned Girardin into a flourishing Domaine (owned vineyards) and micro-negociant (purchased fruit) enterprise. The Domaine was originally based in Santenay, but in 2002 Girardin moved the operation to Meursault. This new cuverie is testimony to his dedication to skillfully melding traditional vineyard management with modern, efficient winemaking.
