  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 95

Shows ripe strawberry, raspberry and plum pudding. Full-bodied, with loads of ripe, juicy fruit. Chewy and tannic, yet polished. Big and powerful.

The estate's 2005 Barolo Brunate is a brooding, mysterious wine that possesses a level of sheer concentration and richness that is exceedingly rare in this vintage. It is also an incredibly primary, full-bodied Barolo that will require significant patience, but all of the signature Brunate notes are in the glass, and this Barolo should develop into a splendid wine over the coming years. This is another awesome effort from Vietti. I may be underestimating this wine, as it is ridiculously great even at this early stage.

  • Decades of experience as vineyard tenders in Barolo provided the Vietti family with priceless information when they decided to go into the winemaking business in the early 1900s. The firm recently acquired an additional 7 hectares of vineyards, bringing their holdings to a total of 31. Their link to the land has been the catalyst for their vineyard-designate bottlings, which showcase Barolo's diverse terroir. The wines' finesse belies their extraordinary depth and complexity; Vietti firmly adheres to the classic style that makes the wines of Piedmont such a revelation to those patient enough to cellar them.
