Powerful, dark, superrich and deeply concentrated. Massive yet elegant, with a dense core of mocha-laced currant, blackberry, wild berry and toasty, cedary oak. Finishes with a long, intense and persistent finish. 250 cases made.

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon T6 is 100% Clone 6, came in at 14.7% alcohol, and was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. It reveals a different character, with notes of charcoal and espresso roast, white chocolate, new saddle leather and a meaty, dense, full-bodied mouthfeel. This is spectacular and terrific stuff. After the RBS, this is probably the most evolved of these five cuvees, although I kept going back to the CCS, which has a hauntingly perfect bouquet.

Completely solid big-time Cabernet. Full of fruit, was not overpowering or too much. Decanted about 90+ minutes before pouring, and did pour back in bottle for transport. Not really my cup of tea but a very good wine!

Taken to Bordeaux. Decanted 1-2 hours. Deep dark and saturated colors. Rich, ripe and expressive nose of black fruits redolent in heady aromas. The mouthfeel was just fantastic. Not flabby or soft, just a shade low on acidity to one astute Bordeaux taster, but nothing of concern. Elegant tannins were of superb quality. Long, complex and highly admirable. 14.7% alcohol was not peaky nor excessive. Shared with a British instructor, a Bordelaise restaurant owner, and a D.U.A.D. student from Korea -- deemed a great American wine, and expressed as a very nice compliment! Will it develop a Terroir-like secondary profile? So hard to tell -- the fruit is such incredible quality on a structured core. Perhaps it's irrelevant. A 30 year wine. Superb.

Schrader's mission statement is essentially one where their 30-year leases on vineyard parcels give them the ability to present a specific clonal study of Cabernet Sauvignon from three highly desired clones (4, 6, and 337) grown within a single vineyard. The bottom line is that with their production averages about 1,600 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wines do have subtle differences, but most importantly, all of them are extraordinary in quality - among the finest Cabernets in California. Fred Schrader and his wife, Carol, hired Thomas Brown to make these wines.
