($145) Bright ruby-red. Cassis, mocha, lead pencil and chocolatey oak on the nose, plus a suggestion of dusty earth. Dense, supple and smooth; full-bodied but rather low-toned, with slightly medicinal flavors of black cherry, mocha, fresh herbs, chocolatey oak and brown spices. Finishes with broad, fine, building tannins. Rich but not heavy, and a bit youthfully bound-up today. I found myself wanting a bit more fruit sweetness, but that may come with bottle age.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2009Wine Spectator | Rating: 93
Supple-textured, ripe, rich and fleshy, with spice, currant, black cherry and wild berry fruit that's well-proportioned, drinking easily already. Firms up nicely on the finish, where the tannins have just the right touch of grip. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. 5,580 cases made.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 95
Unquestionably the finest wine I have ever tasted from this estate owned by well-known movie director Francis Ford-Coppola, the dense ruby/purple-colored 2005 Rubicon possesses wonderfully sweet cassis and black cherry fruit interwoven with dusty, loamy soil, licorice, and spice box notes. Opulent and full-bodied with abundant but sweet, velvety tannins, this 2005 is just beginning to develop its secondary nuances, and should evolve for 2-3 decades. Kudos, this is a superb achievement!Author: Robert Parker

Attractive enough for a big, fat Cali blend. A bit blowsy, though.Author: Stephen G41
The Rubicon Estate Winery (formerly Niebaum-Coppola Winery and Inglenook Winery) is located in Rutherford, California in the heart of Napa Valley. The winery sits on a portion of the historic Napa property first acquired in 1879 by Finnish Sea Captain Gustave Niebaum, founder of the Inglenook Winery.
In 1975, Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased Niebaum's Victorian home, along with 120 acres of surrounding vineyards. In 1995, Coppola reunited the two original Inglenook parcels by purchasing the grand Inglenook chateau and surrounding vineyards (neighboring vineyards now include Heitz Wine Cellars Martha's Vineyard and Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour). The winery underwent a name change in early 2006, and is now known as Rubicon Estate.
