Lovely sweet blackberry fruit matches the supple texture in this appealing Bourgogne. Has adequate acidity and tannins to develop over the next five years. 100 cases imported.

Still in cask, the Groffier 2005 Bourgogne smells of sage, fresh raspberry and fresh meat. Bright in the mouth but with slightly brittle tannins, it finishes with salty minerality and subtle meatiness.

Baked cherry on the nose. Sappy, earthy dark cherry fruit on the palate. Nice finish. This is drinking now but will continue to improve.

Given the vintage and the producer I was expecting more. Easy drinking with enough structure to keep it interesting. Subdued aromatically and a bit shy on fruit all things considered. Perhaps a few years in the cellar may bring forth more complexity but at this price range and AOC designation there are better bets than this wine.

With his son Serge, Robert Groffier creates spectacular Pinot Noirs that are the powerful benchmarks of the respective communes. The Amoureuses, with its succulent fruit, is a kaleidoscope of aromatics and flavorsl. The Clos de Beze is an effort unto itself and has a mouth-coating, sweet earthy, gamy, bramble quality that is elegant and classy. The Sentiers and Haut Doix Chambolles offer classic, high-toned red berry and cherry elements that tend toward a bit more elegance and herb in the former and supple, round vibrancy in the latter.
