2005 Patz & Hall Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / MONTEREY
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 92
(15.2% alcohol; the other pinots all say 14.2% on the label) Good deep ruby-red. Sappy aromas of black raspberry, minerals, pepper, smoked meat, dark chocolate and earth (Hall describes the nose as |brownies with baked walnuts|). Hugely sweet and deep, with a sappy quality to the fruit and complicating notes of pepper, herbs and spices. This has the lush texture, size and weight of a Burgundy grand cru. I would have scored it even higher but for a slight alcoholic warmth.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2007Wine Advocate | Rating: 90
A lovely combination of raspberries, black cherries, forest floor, and subtle wood emerges from this dark ruby-colored wine. Excellent ripeness and purity as well as an overall savory mouthfeel result in a plush, sensual Pinot Noir to enjoy over the next 4-5 years.Author: Robert ParkerBurghound | Rating: 87
finish. As much as I enjoyed several other of the Patz & Hall '05s (see Issue 28 for more reviews), this is a very fruit and alcohol-driven effort and is, to my mind, less successful overall as it's a touch disjointed now.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 1st Quarter, 2008Wine Spectator | Rating: 91
Starts out with ripe cherry, cola and spice notes, then firms up midpalate, where the flavors are rich and polished, gaining depth and dimension. Ends with a long, rich aftertaste. 933 cases made.Author: James Laube

Since 1988, Patz & Hall has set a standard for Chardonnays and Pinots that epitomize poise and finesse. The winery is a partnership of four individuals - Donald Patz, James Hall, Anne Moss and Heather Patz - all of whom are veterans in the production of fine wine. Between them, they have made wine at Flora Springs, Honig Cellars, Far Niente, Marimar Torres, Spring Mountain and Cain Vineyard. They source from regions ranging from the Santa Lucia Highlands to Mendocino, and prime areas in between. The wines skillfully maintain the intricate and graceful dance between substance and balance, power and elegance - the key characteristics of world-class Pinot Noir.
