A 2005 Vosne Romanee Les Petits Monts ƒA?A? assembled in tank when I tasted ƒA?A? offers high-toned black fruit essences, distilled plum, smoke, floral and spice aromas. Tasting of spiced blackberries and prune, it evinces fungal and mossy, forest floor inner-mouth aromas as it reacts to the air. Rich and palate saturating, it comes up a bit disappointing in its finish, but certainly only on account of its recent racking and sulfuring. There will be a (by PotelƒA?A?s standards) whopping 225 cases of this. ItƒA?A?s worth pointing out that this vineyard above Richebourg and between Reignots and Cros Parantoux ƒA?A? like several of those from VosneƒA?A?s highest altitudes ƒA?A? was not even marked on the vineyard maps of most reference books until the past decade.

Deep red-ruby. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, crushed rock and violet. Densely packed but juicy and light on its feet, with a penetrating mineral character giving it energy and precision. This finishes with grand cru palate coverage and seductive sweetness but no impression of weight.

Relatively deep. Blackish/brownish tinge. Very tough and uncompromising. Very, very chewy. Stern. Wait!
