Fashioned from a McLaren Vale vineyard, the 2005 Shiraz G.A.M. (named after the Mitolo children - Gemma, Alexander, and Marco) is a deep ruby/purple-hued effort displaying beautiful blackberry, white pepper, licorice, and toasty oak notes. Rich, full-bodied, and intense, with blueberry and blackberry flavors, sweet tannin, and excellent purity, it is a tour de force in winemaking. Enjoy it over the next decade.

I loved this dense, exciting wine that is thoroughly enveloping in its thick, ripe, Willunga fruit but also manages to have lift and life to it too. No excess of sweetness.A much more comfortable and comforting drink than the 2004.

Another thick and rich Australian shiraz. I particularly liked this wine. It had great fruit and balance but was not overdone. Dark in color and subtle but yet marked alcohol content led to nice integration that complemented our meal.

Dark, inky with a garnet rim. Big fruity nose with blueberry and blackberry. Intense full body with smooth tannins. Massive rich flavours; blackberry, cherry, liquorice and pepper spice. A little vanillin and oak on the long, long finish.

Darkly colored with a severely reduced nose. Tastes very grapy and rather simple. Very young but I'm not sure age will do much for this wine. NR due to the reduction. Tasted from a half bottle closed with a screw cap and perfectly stored since release.

Reticent nose at first, then burnt tar, dark fruit, plum. Sweet and medium finish. Not sure why these were rated so high.

More than half of all Australian wine production takes place in the South Australia region—home to the Shiraz-specializing Barossa Valley as well as revered Riesling zones Clare Valley and Eden Valley. South Australia is too large and diverse to generalize about climate or topography, with both cooler coastal areas and warmer inland sections—but rainfall is generally low throughout and drought is a constant concern.
