($45) Dark red. Spicy raspberry and kirsch aromas are lifted by vibrant floral notes of fresh violet and rose. Elegant, fine-grained and pure, with lively red fruit flavors and an exotic Asian spice element that mounts with aeration. There's a light touch here but also impressive concentration and a building floral quality on the long, sappy finish. I suspect that this would reward a few years of cellaring.

The 2005 Pinot Noir |Shea Vineyard| is purple-colored with a superb aromatic array of pain grille, earth, spice box, black cherry, blueberry, and black raspberry. The wine is medium- to full-bodied with unusual depth for the vintage. There are layers of flavor, great integration, and a very long finish.

second try and still disappointing. Grapey and not really very good.

Located in rural Carlton, Oregon, Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, they believe Pinot noir best expresses the character of these sites. Rather than stamping wine with a varietal trademark, they see Pinot noir as a vehicle for conveying the aroma, flavor and texture of the location in which it is grown.
