($35) Saturated, bright red-ruby color. Superripe aromas of berry liqueur, leather, licorice and smoke. Rich and supple, with good volume and distinctly sweet fruit flavors. Nicely round and seamless wine with a slight rusticity and a hint of licorice on the end.

The 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Peuillets smells gamey, smoky and sweetly floral, featuring ripe cherry fruit, marrow and game on the palate. The village wine exhibits more clarity and polish in the finish today, but perhaps bottling will actually do this good.
