($45-$55) Good ruby-red. Reticent but nuanced nose hints at currant, game, iron and coffee. A fruit bomb in the mouth, with fat, sweet flavors of redcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and smoked meat. As full-blown and ripe as this is on first blush, there's plenty of ripe tannins and firm acids underneath. In fact, this quickly shut down in the glass, suggesting that it will require at least six or seven years of aging. The thickest of these three vintages, but the young 2007 is more suave.

Aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate, with a hint of coffee, lead to a medium-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a clean, fruity finish.

Dark, bright, crimson. According to the label, just 12.5 per cent! Savoury, meaty, I wouldn't be surprised to learn this was farmed with minimal chemical inputs. Very gentle. Lovely texture yet no shortage of flavour and the tannins are beautifully hidden. Very fresh and revitalising. Silky satin plus life. Definitely one to watch.
