The 2005 Neo Punta Esencia was sourced from low-yielding 80-year-old vines aged for 12 months in new French and American oak followed by racking into 100% new French oak for another 6 months, what has been called the |200 percent new oak treatment|. Purple/black in color, the wine reveals a brooding nose of toasty oak, vanilla, mineral, scorched earth, espresso, blueberry, blackberry liqueur, and licorice. Full-bodied, large-scaled and powerful, the wine is still tightly wound but has all the components needed for greatness. Give it 8-10 years in the cellar to come out of its shell and you will then be able to drink this very lengthy behemoth through 2040.

Great wine, awesome core of fruit, juicy, tasty and suave quality vanilla oak tannins. Its drinkable and delicious now but it will continue to improve with yrs in botlle as it gets complexity. Its inky dark color and full body. Simply a great wine a tour of france in the making and unique or differnt in style and approach to Spanish standards, it seems more like a great young pomerol.

The attention this boutique winery has been receiving is very well-deserved. The project is the fulfillment of a dream for three young men - Javier Ajenjo, Julio Cesar Conde, and Jose Luis Simon - who are creating stunning wines. Isaac Fernandez - the nephew of Mariano Garcia, ex-winemaker for Vega Sicilia - excels at bringing the myriad faces of Tempranillo to its fullest potential with the "Neo" wines. They are 100% Tempranillo, grown in limestone and clay soils within a continental climate that sees quite a disparity between daytime and nighttime temperatures. The vines are 50+ years old and the wines, vinified separately by lot, are aged in new French oak for 14 months.
