    Deep ruby-red. Blueberry and licorice aromas complicated by tobacco and flowers and lifted by spices. Sweet, dense and lively, with lovely spicy lightness to the flavors of plum, rose petal and tobacco. There's something almost Burgundian about the texture of this wine. This boasts terrific energy and length, finishing with sweet spices and flowers and substantial tongue-dusting tannins. Vineyard management expert David Abreu took over here in 2005 and has taken this wine to a higher level by getting more uniformity of ripeness from this site.

    Shows amazing purity of fruit, focus, balance and depth, with tiers of spicy currant, anise, hazelnut, mineral and melted licorice, combining power with finesse and grace with intensity. Ends with a long, lingering finish that keeps repeating the core flavor themes.

    Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Chateau Doisy-Daene has a very attractive nose with perfumed apricot blossom, white peach and honey all infused with cold stone scents. The palate is very well balanced with beautifully judged acidity. This feels harmonious in the mouth, almost Coutet - like in style with a long, lightly spiced finish. This is an excellent Doisy-Daene from Denis Dubourdieu.

  • Ann Colgin, a former fine art dealer, began her label in 1992, and it quickly became one of the most sought-after names in Napa. Winemaking duties were originally handled by Helen Turley, then Mark Aubert in 1999. Production of the Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard is very small, with only about 350 cases produced each vintage. As with most of the world's truly great wines, Colgin's philosophy revolves around low yields and meticulous care of the fruit in the vineyard, winery and transportation between the two.
