($95) Bright purple. Room-filling bouquet of seductive red and dark berry preserves, along with sexy incense and fresh floral qualities. Much fresher than last year's showing, with deep, sweet raspberry and candied blackberry flavors, silky tannins and a brisk, energetic finish. This has remarkable clarity and cling. Built to last but there'd be no crime in drinking it now.

As with the 2005 Les Safres release, I found the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz to be structured, concentrated and serious, with big tannin and a focused feel. Showing plenty of dark fruit, crushed rock, earth and iron, it stretches out nicely on the finish and will be a long-lived wine. Give it another couple years and enjoy bottles though 2028.

Introvert and bit heavily extrcted. Sweet, full and exaggerated. Very dry, minerally chew on the end. This mitigates the extreme ripenesss - this may well come good, though keep it for ages!

This delivers mouthfilling mocha, blackberry confiture, fig paste and licorice flavors, with loamy tannins and lots of bittersweet cocoa and coffee on the finish. Despite its heft, this is polished and driven, showing the strength of this great vintage.

Yes, this is what wine is all about. A phenomenal experience and a triumphant creation, this has all the elements - expressive fruits, power, excellent mouth feel, it was all there. Dark nearly opaque purple - decanted and let sit for ~3+ hours and the cassis/blackberry flavors emerged and just rolled silkily along the palate from front to back. Picked up some fig flavors too. Believe the hype - if 2010 is a superior vintage then I need me some of that! There's serious longevity here - and considering the price, a great value.

The exceptional quality and stylistic excellence of this property's wines are due to the dedication, versatility, and forward thinking of both the late Jean-Denis Vacheron (who married the owner's daughter, Sylvie Pouzin) and the current winemaker, Bruno Gaspard. Jean-Denis and Sylvie had taken over from her father, Claude, in 1996. However, in 2002, Jean-Denis was killed in a traffic accident and Sylvie took the reins. Today, with the help of Gaspard as well as oenologist Philippe Cambie, she has catapulted the domaine into the elite echelon of the Southern Rhône. Despite holding only nine hectares of land, the domaine boasts venerable neighbors (Château Rayas and Château de Beaucastel), and its vineyards have elements of the best of both these estates. The rocky-sandy soils provide excellent drainage and impart minerality to these Châteauneuf-du-Papes.
