  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

($44) Ruby-red. Jammy cherry and blackberry aromas offer good depth, with a light smoky note adding complexity. Full, fleshy and ripe, with a refreshing bitter quality to the dark fruit flavors. A peppery note arrives on the finish, which shows very good hang time.

Lithe, open-textured and pure of flavor, offering plum and currant fruit surrounded by hints of coffee and clove, lingering gently but persistently. Drink now through 2015. 282 cases made.

The 2005 Pinot Noir |Corral Creek| comes from an estate vineyard which Peterson-Nedry describes as |typically light and delicate|. It exhibits an attractive nose of toast, spice box, cassis, and raspberry. On the palate the wine is velvety-textured and elegant with the acidity of the vintage nicely in check. There is excellent depth and length to this beautifully balanced wine which can be enjoyed now but will certainly drink well for 10-12 years.

  • From small-scale hobby to major career endeavor, Harry Peterson-Nedry has taken his winemaking from one end of the spectrum to the other. In 1980, he made his first move, planting 37-acre Ridgecrest Vineyards in Oregon's new Ribbon Ridge AVA. A decade later, he took another major step, founding Chehalem with partners Bill and Cathy Stoller (owners of Stoller Vineyards) and expanding his estate holdings over the course of the next five years. Peterson-Nedry actively applies his degree in Chemistry to his winemaking, experimenting and tinkering with different variables on his fruit every vintage to produce consistently high quality wine. All fruit is estate-grown; reds include Pinot Noir and a bit of Gamay and the whites are Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Blanc.
