  • Burghound | Rating: 95

A crushed red berry fruit nose that is cool and reserved but pure and elegant combines with precise, driving and intense medium full flavors built on a base of minerality that becomes very evident on the linear and vibrant finish. There is an almost Zen-like sense of harmony here. Gorgeous.

Bright ruby-red. Vibrant, highly nuanced nose combines blueberry, blackberry, minerals and a subtle gamey note, along with a suggestion of crystallized fruit. Wonderfully silky and sweet in the mouth, with excellent definition to the black fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. Ripe acids give this wine plenty of verve. |This was good since the start,| noted Dugat.

  • Jancis Robinson | Rating: 18

Rich, spicy, intensely rewarding nose, with a suggestion of a rich red (papal?) velvet robe. Spice and meat and real zest and kick. There's a superficial sweetness but on the palate the wine is very finely structured as well as having lots of flesh. Mineral and truly refreshing on the finish. This is first class.

There will be only around 65 cases of Dugat's 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St.-Jacques, an intensely spicy, cherry-, plum- and high-toned flower-scented wine exhibiting in the mouth roasted meatiness and deep, pure, sweet yet fresh fruit, tinged with tactile spiciness of cinnamon and ginger. The texture is already remarkably alluring and refined - truly silken. A dynamic, amazingly long finish offers oscillating fruit, spice, meat and chalky, stony mineral elements. (Incidentally, the fruit was not de-stemmed.) Plan on 15-20 years of fascinating evolution.

  • Domaine Dugat-Py is a small family-operated winery in Gevrey-Chambertin that produces a dozen wines ranging from regional to grand cru status. In former days, the Dugat family sold their wines in bulk to local negociants, which currently limits their representation of older vintages. Today, Bernard and Jocelyne Dugat manage the property and have bottled estate fruit since 1989. The domaine's 7.26 hectares of vines are old and produce naturally low yields. There is very little intervention during the vinification process and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Dugat-Py ages its wine in a lofty vaulted cellar, originally built by monks, that dates back to 1075. The wines display a concentrated, lush, old-vine flavor that reflects the quality of such a high class estate.
