($150) Good deep ruby-red. Captivating aromas of black raspberry, mocha, minerals, milk chocolate and nutty oak, lifted by sexy spices. Rich, luscious and creamy, with terrific weight in the mouth. Wonderfully supple and mouthcoating wine with smooth, sweet tannins and excellent persistence. This wine is based on 80% cabernet franc, the highest percentage since Arietta's outstanding 1997 red blend, which was indistinguishable from a topnotch St. Emilion when I last tasted it a year ago.

Offers complex aromas of mocha, espresso, rich plum and berry, with shades of anise, licorice, light cedary oak and cigar box. Ends with rich, full tannins that are supple and graceful. At a prime drinking stage. Cabernet Franc and Merlot. - 2005 California Cabernet blind retrospective (September 2015). Drink now. 400 cases made.

This intriguing blend from the famous Hudson Vineyard is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot. A lesson in the complexity of Cabernet Franc is at hand with this brilliant wine. Distinctive and intellectually pleasing notes of mulberry, forest floor, spring flowers and spice jump from the glass of this dark plum/ruby-colored wine with some lightening at the edge. It is medium-bodied, round and generous, with silky tannins and a plush texture. This is how gorgeous Cabernet Franc, when blended with Merlot, can be. Interesting that the alcohol is relatively lofty at 14.8%, which is completely obscured by the wine's sheer elegance and complexity. I'm sure this is going to get a lot better, so drink it over the next 5-6 years.

Excellent mature, cab franc based which give a Bordeaux style on his minerality, green peppers arome although still a little mute on aromes it is more expressive in taste and finish this wine has depth. Starting to drink well and the best is to come since this have plenty of live ahead and will gain more round and layers within next 3 years. Helathy and smooth tannins close the experience.

Sage, violet, white chocolate, and some anise. Very full bodied with nice rounded edges. This would do with a few more years of ageing.

Not quite a newcomer, in terms of the powers behind it, Arietta was founded in 1996 as a partnership between renowned winemaker John Kongsgaard, his wife Maggy, and wine auctioneer Fritz Hatton. The Hudson Ranch (Napa/Carneros) provides the mostly Cabernet Franc of H Block and the Merlot and Syrah of Variation One. Make sure to try some of their first foray into the realm of white On The White Keys which is made from hillside Sauvignon Blanc and old vine Semillon.
