($36-$40; 14.5% alcohol) Bright ruby-red. Almost candied sweetness to the aromas and flavors of pungent black fruits and minerals. Then wonderfully ripe, full and sweet in the mouth, with captivating freshness. The tannins arrive very late, allowing the fruit to expand and linger. |We need great ripeness on this chalky site or else we get bad tannins,| noted von Neipperg. One of the great values of the vintage: this opened at 13 euros.

Displays gorgeous aromas of vanilla bean, mineral, raspberry and blackberry. Full-bodied, with very round, soft tannins and a long, rich, fruity finish. Beautiful.

From the famous family of Comte de Neipperg, the 2005 D'Aiguilhe is sensational and may be one of the best cuvees I have ever tasted from Neipperg and his Cotes de Castillon estate. This wine has an opaque purple color and loads of Christmas fruitcake, licorice and crushed chalk along with plenty of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Full-bodied, rich, still structured and tannic, but super-concentrated, this is an amazing effort in 2005. Give it another several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 20 years.

Sweet, lively, reasonably fresh on the nose. Pretty marked oak tannins - very severe and exaggerated.

Still a bit young, but would be great with another 2 or 3 years of cellaring.

Wonderful perfume nose (more like a Margaux) huge amount of soft fruit, good acidity, 50 second finish .. wow .. strangely a bit murky but didn't taste like it.

Located in the southwest of France, Bordeaux is the single largest fine-wine-producing region in the world, with more than 15,000 growers spread over 57 appellations and more than 700 million bottles produced annually. The region boasts a two-thousand-year winemaking history and some of the wine world's most recognized and highly sought-after names. Red Bordeaux blends comprise eighty percent of production, but dry and sweet whites are also well-known. The region is divided into the Left and Right Banks (of the Dordogne River); Cabernet Sauvignon prevails in the former and Merlot in the latter.
