($225; blended with 7% cabernet franc) Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of black fruits, licorice, tar and meat. Lush, large-scaled and rich, with impressive sweetness and concentration to the very round, almost roasted fruit flavors. Finishes with huge but very fine tannins. A wonderfully round wine with a sexy oak component. The best vintage to date for Chuck McMinn's steadily improving wine, from a steep east-facing vineyard just down the road from Grace Family Vineyards.

Firm and tight, with herb, cedar, dried currant and blackberry. Rich and complex, but also quite dry and tannic on the finish. Decant. 1,250 cases made.

This great vineyard situated on the hillsides north of St. Helena has produced a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc. A sensational offering from proprietors Chuck and Anne McMinn, it offers up beautiful floral, blueberry, black currant, blackberry, licorice and incense aromas. Not a hard edge is to be found in this full-bodied, multidimensional, complex, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. With sweet tannin as well as a skyscraper-like texture, it is performing even better than it did early in life. One of the superstars of the vintage, it can be drunk over the next 10-15 years.

From Magnum bottle: This is a great wine! such balance between a superb core of sweet, dark and plush fruit...mainly black, red fruit that were ripe but sweet and what a kind of fine grain tannins....the balance again was superb...it is delicious right now and have the stuff for further aging and gain complexities but right now the star here is the fruit quality and the delicious tannins! so enjoy it now.

What to do when you find the land you purchased for retirement is, in fact, perfectly suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon...in Napa? Plant a vineyard and start a new career. Teresa Norton and Tom Paine did just that in 1989, planting 3 acres under the direction of legendary vineyard manager David Abreu. In 1992 the first vintage was released - 250 cases of estate Cabernet. Philippe Melka became winemaker in 1999, and soon after Teresa and Tom decided to really retire. They sold Vineyard 29 to Churck and Anne McMinn. A new winery was built, caves were dug, and production increased with the purchase of a second vineyard, Aida, planted to Cabernet, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. From these two vineyards, the estate wines are produced: Vineyard 29 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vineyard 29 Sauvignon Blanc, Aida Red Wine, and Aida Zinfandel.
