2004 Maison Verget Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 1er Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY /
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90
($50) Ripe, vibrant aromas of apple, minerals and flint. Dense, ripe and concentrated, with flavors of peach, apple and pear. Seamless, broad and rather full, even if it can't quite match the Forets yet for cut. But this is still very unevolved. Perhaps best today on the crisp, stony aftertaste.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: November/December 2006Burghound | Rating: 92
A background hint of wood toast frames a very Chablis nose of green fruit, sea weed and iodine with racy, pure and elegant flavors that are powerful yet retain a fine sense of finishing precision. Ironically given some of the vineyards represented here, this offers the most intense Chablis character of any wine to this point. A very promising effort and recommended.Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 4th Quarter, 2005
When he created Verget in 1990, Jean-Marie Guffens applied the very same rules as for his own production. Verget's philosophy can be summed up in one simple sentence: "the best wine comes from the best grapes." This elementary saying is the corner stone of Verget. Thus, whether in Maconnais, Chablis or Cote d'Or, the best vineyards and best terroirs are selected to produce quality wines.
