2004 Turley Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / SAN LUIS OBISPO
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 95
(16.3% alcohol; bottled in January) Bright medium ruby. Black fruits lifted by a peppery topnote. Dense, powerful and chewy, with extravagantly concentrated and impressively penetrating flavors of blackberry and pepper. Firm acids give this terrific definition and vinosity. Finishes extremely long, with sweet tannins and good peppery lift. Just the third vintage from this vineyard, which was planted in 1885, and as superlative as the first two.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2006Wine Advocate | Rating: 93
From the limestone soils of Paso Robles, the 2004 Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard (planted in the late 19th century) exhibits abundant structure and freshness as well as superb fruit, full body, and powerful briery, raspberry, peppery, herbal components with a decided kirsch liqueur-like note and striking minerality. This stunning effort is one of the more backward 2004 Zins. Amazingly, its 16.2% alcohol is completely hidden.Author: Robert ParkerWine Spectator | Rating: 89
Ripe and fleshy, with aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, strawberry and blueberry. Sharply focused, intense and complex. The flavors sail on the finish, ending with a touch of heat.Author: James Laube

Drinking beautifully. Once again, a concentrated, well balanced zin that manages to stay light on its feet. Silky smooth tannins. Brings to mind (and I've said this before) warm blackberry pie with graham cracker crust and vanilla ice cream. Wonderful length to the finish. Such an enjoyable wine!Drink Dates: 2012-2014Author: StuTarheelSelf | Rating: 93

Juicy smooth not much spice. Truly elegant zinAuthor: JulesSelf | Rating: 92
not as good as the last time but great nose of spice, cherry, and typical zin appeal. Noted for its complexity, this zin has more mineral and floral notes. Med weight, nice fruit finishAuthor: cloudonSelf | Rating: 93
Very good zin, but a bit heavy on the alcohol to suit my taste.Drink Dates: 2010-2016Author: ebgreenb
Making "big reds" has been Larry Turley's passion since giving up his co-ownership of Frog's Leap Winery in 1993. Turley Wine Cellars is run by Larry and his wife Suzanne. Larry's sister, winemaker Helen Turley, made the wines here until 1995. Now the honor goes to Ehren Jordan, who also makes wines for Neyers. With a focus on producing old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, Turley sources fruit from vineyards some of which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Both the Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs have a dark, saturated, inky color, with intense fruit flavors that make unforgettable statements about the power and complexity these varieties may attain.
