2004 Susana Balbo Syrah/Bonarda Crios de Susana Balbo

($15; from old vines) Medium ruby. Perfumed aromas of blackberry, licorice, violet and rose petal. Sweet, round and silky, with dark berry and spice flavors complemented by smoky oak. Broad and harmonious wine, lacking only the complexity for an outstanding rating. Finishes with very fine tannins and a chocolatey sweetness.
