A staggeringly great wine from this iconic property in Rutherford, Scarecrow's 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) boasts a dense ruby/purple color, a deep, rich, full-bodied style with perfect balance/equilibrium, stunning purity, lots of creme de cassis, minerality and floral notes, a persistent finish, and a staggering personality that is a sign of singularity as well as greatness. The finesse of the tannins is fabulous. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

Sourced from the 60-year-old vines off Bret Lopez's JJ Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford, and made by Celia Welch, this wine became a legend in just three short years. The vines were planted in 1945 by JJ Cohn (Lopez's Grandfather) in response to neighbor and Inglenook Manager John Daniel's post-war behest to plant vines to service the coming demand. These original St. George-rooted, non-trellised "old men" continue to produce world-class fruit for world-class wine. Scarecrow is named after the character in The Wizard of Oz, as Cohn was Chief Production Executive at MGM pictures in the 1930s, when the movie was made. Lopez spent his summers as a boy at the vineyard and relishes the memories from that time. He and wife, Mimi Deblasio, reside in the original house at the vineyard.
