  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 88

Dense and chewy, with dried currant, anise and earthy, loamy flavors that coat the palate, gaining depth and nuance. Spicy cherry and berry fruit builds depth and richness on the finish. Needs lots of air. 4,400 cases made.

  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 89

The flagship wine from this estate, the 2004 Rubicon exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as an attractive earthy, oaky bouquet with underbrush, black cherry, and currant notes in the background. Medium to full-bodied, chunky, deep, and rustic, this is a spicy, earthy red to drink now or cellar for 12-15 years.

The Rubicon Estate Winery (formerly Niebaum-Coppola Winery and Inglenook Winery) is located in Rutherford, California in the heart of Napa Valley. The winery sits on a portion of the historic Napa property first acquired in 1879 by Finnish Sea Captain Gustave Niebaum, founder of the Inglenook Winery.

In 1975, Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased Niebaum's Victorian home, along with 120 acres of surrounding vineyards. In 1995, Coppola reunited the two original Inglenook parcels by purchasing the grand Inglenook chateau and surrounding vineyards (neighboring vineyards now include Heitz Wine Cellars Martha's Vineyard and Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour). The winery underwent a name change in early 2006, and is now known as Rubicon Estate.
