($115; made of declassified Pommard, Volnay, Savigny-les-Beaune, Corton, Clos Vougeot and Clos de la Roche) Palish red. Sexy aromas of plum, redcurrant, smoked meat, mushroom and earth. Supple, sweet and shapely, with slightly dry-edged flavors of iron and tobacco. A very shapely wine with lovely persistence.

Consistent notes. There is a wonderfully unique component (animal/musk?), especially on the nose, that I have only found on Leroy & DRC red Burgundies. Deceptively light to medium mahogany red color consistent with this light, early maturing vintage; significant sediment that requires the bottle to be standing up at least 48 hours before decanting; fresh fruit, esp. black, spice; haberdashery & musk on the nose that follow through on the palate; opened up even more an hour after decanting; concentrated & complex w/great balance & elegance - emphasis on finesse rather than power; soft integrated tannins; very long complex finish. A lovely Burgundy that is drinking well now but probably near the end of its drinking period.

Opened an hour prior to drinking; did not decant. As typical with other Leroy bottles from 2004, color was cloudy and now light red and orange. Nice nose with lovely red fruit, some earth and a bit of tar (?). On the palate, some crunchy red fruits with bright acidity and a fairly lengthy finish. As usual with Leroy wines for me, the nose is so inviting and interesting ... almost could just smell it all evening.

"Domaine Leroy is a welcome reminder of the difference between the very good and the great." - Michel Bettane, Vins de France

Created in 1988 with the purchase of the 12-hectare Domaine Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Leroy has become one of the most impressive and vaunted properties in Burgundy. Cultivation follows strict biodynamic parameters and the combination of old vine preservation and ultra-low yields produces fruit of unrivaled excellence. The resultant wines are masterpieces of purity, intensity and layered subtlety enhanced by an uncommonly statuesque concentration. The spectacular reviews that these wines consistently receive attest to their incredible and solid quality—they are a lynchpin in any Burgundy enthusiast's collection.
