($360; bottled three weeks before my visit) Enticing nose offers lemon peel and wet and powdered stone. Wonderfully sweet but firm, with perfectly integrated acidity enlivening the flavors of crystallized lemon peel, stone and minerals. Wonderfully perfumed and aromatic in the mouth, and quite light on its feet despite its obvious density of material. Finishes very subtle and extremely long, with superb cut. This is actually lower in acidity in 2004 than the estate's Batard.

The oak is a bit flashy now, but there's plenty of substance underneath in this powerful, seductive white. Apple, citronella, hazelnut, smoky spices and mineral aromas and flavors mingle with the bright structure. Concentrated yet balanced, with a creamy texture and a long, racy finish. 270 cases imported.

This is almost as backward as the Bienvenues though supremely elegant white flower and subtle spice aromas peek through the moderate reduction yet the piercingly mineral flavors display a beguiling sweetness on the crystalline and incredibly precise finish that seems to have no end. This will be a great wine in time as it's clear that there is another dimension here compared to all of the previous wines.

"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
