($100) Moderately saturated medium red. Small wild red fruits, smoke and underbrush on the nose. Nicely concentrated and sweet, with flavors of black cherry, spices and meat. A bit youthfully closed today but offers good intensity and a rather round texture. Finishes with sweet tannins, noteworthy richness and lingering minerality. Not exactly charming today but displays a sappy freshness and notes of rosemary and white pepper. |The 2004s show more spices and culinary herbs than fruits and flowers,| noted Roumier.

A gorgeously elegant nose of high-toned red berry fruit aromas that offer impressive nuance and notable complexity introduces supple, finely detailed and beautifully textured flavors wrapped in a dusty, mineral-infused finish. This dances on the palate yet it is forceful with excellent finishing drive and intensity with only the barest hint of forest floor.

Deep crimson with, as usual for 2004, a very pale rim. Quite a complex nose already! Layered and fresh and a little bit awkward and callow but pretty promising. Lively and pretty fresh. Wait though. Pretty tough finish. Even slightly alcoholic finish.

Cooking spices...rosemary, thyme. Not much fruit expression.

Georges Roumier married his way into some of the best vineyard holdings in the Cote d'Or, back in 1924. He gained a wife from Chambolle and the vineyards as part of the dowry. Grand Cru blocks in Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Musigny, and Corton Charlemagne produce highly sought-after wines year after year. Christophe Roumier, Georges' son, has run the domaine since 1982, when he took over management of his family's 14.2 hectares of vines. He is regarded as one of the finest winemakers in the Cote de Nuit, one who strives to create authentic representations of each of his diverse plots.
