A beautiful wine, Far Niente's 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant, rich, concentrated and pure. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot, it possesses a saturated purple color, a sweet nose of black currants, licorice, incense and subtle vanilla, medium to full body, significant power and a Pauillac-like cedary, creme de cassis style. It should drink well for two decades or more.

Aromas of spice, dried currant and zesty berry offer hints of mineral, sage and cedary oak. Leans toward dryness on the finish, where the tannins firm up. Finishes with a nice burst of red fruit. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 9,200 cases made.
Opaque purple with a wow nose of intense blackberry syrup, banana, huckleberry sauce, bubble gum, and vanilla. Lush sweet fruit in the mouth with more blackberry and butterscotch. Lacks structure with low tannins and moderate levels of acidity. Still this is a big fruit gushing wine that will likely be quite popular. Some shoring up of the wine?s underpinnings could turn out a quite special wine. The winemaker will likely crank up the oak in order to have more wood tannin leech into the wine, a procedure that is fraught with the risk of overdoing it.
