2004 Elyse Petite Sirah Rutherford
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / NAPA
Wine Advocate | Rating: 90
The black ruby/purple-hued, backward, intense 2004 Petite Sirah Rutherford exhibits notes of pen ink, graphite, white flowers, black raspberries, and incense. It may be even better with 5-10 years of bottle age, and should keep for 20 plus years.Author: Robert Parker

Ray and Nancy Coursen founded Elyse Winery in 1987 with their first production of Morisoli Vineyard Zinfandel. They continued to purchase grapes until 1997 when they bought a small winery on Hoffman Lane. After initially focusing on Zinfandel, the winery expanded into Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah and more recently Coursen has made small quantities of Chardonnay, a Cal-Ital blend called Nero Misto, a Chenin Blanc, Rose, and a Grenache called Le Corbeau. The winery has two labels, Elyse and Jacob Franklin, named after their children. The Jacob Franklin label was started in 1998, featuring a low-yield Petite Sirah, a Bordeaux blend called #60 Mon Chou and a Hoffman Lane Cabernet.
