  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

($38) Dark red. Plum, cherry and smoked meat on the brooding, ripe nose. Dense and thick, the dark fruit flavors accented by notes of espresso, black tea and licorice. Serious, almost musclebound pinot with considerable heft and power. Finishes on a sappy, almost viscous note of sweet kirsch but with no lack of definition.

  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 87

A pretty wine, smooth and spicy, with a toasty note weaving through the ripe blackberry and dark plum flavors. 480 cases made.

The 2004 Pinot Noir Mount Richmond bursts from the glass with spiced black cherry aromas. Medium to full-bodied, it has outstanding depth of fruit, harmony, and balance. This black cherry, Asian spice, and blackberry-flavored wine also displays a long, ripe tannin-filled finish.

  • Elk Cove owners Joe and Pat Campbell began producing Pinot Noir in 1977 and have kept the business in the family as their son Adam is now full-time winemaker. Fruit sources include 180 acres of estate vineyards on four sites in the Northern Willamette Valley. From these low-yielding, steep-sloped vineyards, the winery produces an array of wines including Pinot Gris and Blanc, Riesling, Syrah, a sparkling wine, and of course Pinot Noir. The recent addition of Five Mountain Vineyard continues the long held philosophy of using mature, established vineyard sites.
