An extremely ripe nose of chocolate and spiced plum combines with exceptionally rich and concentrated medium full fleshy flavors underpinned by suave tannins and a delicious if moderately warm finish. This actually is nicely balanced despite the substantial alcohol and while it's not subtle, those who enjoy very ripe pinot will find much to like here.Drink Dates: 2008+Author: Allen MeadowsIssue: 4th Quarter, 2006International Wine Cellar | Rating: 87
Full red-ruby. Musky, reduced aromas of dark berries, espresso and mocha; strong element of torrefaction. Concentrated, broad, fat and sweet, with a musky character to the black raspberry and chocolate flavors. Offers plenty of texture but comes across as a bit youthfully clenched and in need of lots of aeration. The reduced quality continues straight through the wine. Finishes with fairly fine tannins.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: September/October 2006Wine Spectator | Rating: 85
Spicy herb, cola and sage flavors turn earthy, with ripe blackberry and wild berry fruit that turns minerally on the finish. Drink now. 1,952 cases made.Drink Dates: 2006+Author: James Laube

The Dierberg Vineyard is located off the coast of the Pacific Ocean at the southern end of the Santa Maria Valley. The land features a variety of hillside slopes, sandy loam soils and western exposures, ideally suited for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With Nicholas DeLuca as head winemaker, and David Ramey of Ramey Wine Cellars Dierberg has been able to produce some fantastic recent vintages. Black cherry, violet and cola spill onto the palate from the Pinot Noir while the Chardonnay possesses dense notes of butterscotch, tropical fruit, and citrus and a long, smooth finish.
