    (16% alcohol; 80% new oak) Deep ruby-red. Raspberry liqueur, blueberry and hints of forest floor on the nose. Sweet, full and fat with berry fruit. A dense, huge fruit bomb of a pinot noir that maintains a good firm edge. Finishes with dusty tannins, great sweetness and a bit of youthful aggressiveness. The crop level here was just a half-ton an acre, according to Aubert.

    The amazing 2004 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard, made from the Calera clone of Pinot Noir, is named after Aubert's superb viticultural manager, Ulises Valdez. This Sonoma Coast vineyard has produced a prodigious wine exhibiting gorgeous aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, plums, forest floor, and violets. Full-bodied with superb underlying acidity, layers of texture and richness yet unbelievably surreal and light on the palate, this stunning wine can be consumed over the next decade.

    An absolutely stunning California Pinot Noir made from grapes farmed by Ulysses Valdes (UV). This wine is big, bold, fruity and structured with an extraordinarily long, luscious finish. Rich cherry and plum flavors are balanced with significant, but still very delicious and approachable, tannins. This wine has the potential to age and improve like an excellent Northern California cabernet. An amazing winner with a dinner including braised beef and artisinal cheeses. Wow!

Mark Aubert's four Sonoma Coast vineyard-designate Chardonnays - Lauren, Reuling, Quarry and Ritchie - have risen to cult status at a dizzying speed. Production is a limited 4,000 cases and the wines are available via the winery's mailing list. Aubert's career in winemaking reads like a fantasy, with his 1989 start as assistant winemaker at Peter Michael under the tutelage of Helen Turley, to his time at Colgin and Bryant Family. His eponymous wines are exemplary renditions of Chardonnay, replete with the rich bounty of the terroirs from which he sources the fruit. At the same time, they reflect his adept oenological hand, and maintain a focused balance of flavor and purity.

Aubert also makes several Pinot Noirs sourced from the Sonoma Coast as well as a "right-bank" Bordeaux style blend from Napa's Howell Mountain.
