($50) Deep ruby. Peppery blackcurrant and cherry on the nose. Tight red and dark berry flavors are firmed by youthful tannins and complicated by herbs and roasted coffee. Turns fresher on the finish, repeating the cherry quality.
Smooth, medium bodied and well balanced wine. Wood and smoke finish may not be for everyone.

This vintage was first tasted at an Arrowood Red Reserve tasting in May 2009. It certainly left a favorable impression. The bottle was opened and allowed to breath for nearly an hour. The Cabernet was a clear deep garnet color in the glass. The nose had an excitable aroma with wonderful tones of cigar, earth, and dark fruit. The mid-palate had subtle hints of oak, cloves, and cassis. Although fruity, bold and round, the body was lighter than expected and slightly out of balance. I expected more tannin, a longer finish, and less alcohol. A nice wine which could have developed more with additional age.
