($43) Inky violet. Powerful oak tones atop ripe dark berry and cherry liqueur aromas. Fat, viscous and deep, with wonderfully sweet blackberry fruit and sexy accents of licorice, vanilla and oak spice. This handles the aggressive oak treatment far more successfully than the 2003 version did. Finishes long, on a lush note of candied dark berries.

Dark crimson, with an interesting high-toned nutty note on the nose - considerably more complex than the Veraton with firmer tannins and less obvious sweetness. ÿPretty austere at the moment though it seems to have a lot tucked in there. This tastes French-oaked whereas the Veraton seems unequivocally American oaked.

Ripe and powerful, with rich blackberry fruit and lavish oak, this red shows muscle wrapped in velvet. There's enough acidity for balance, and the well-integrated tannins provide structure. For fans of the international style.

The estate's mid-level effort is the fairly priced Alto Moncayo. This wine is spectacular, and represents the perfect foil for grilled steak. Even richer, fuller, and more muscular than the 2003, with riveting intensity and palate staining extract, the 2004 Alto Moncayo is inky/purple, full-bodied, and rich. This pedal-to-the-metal offering should age handsomely for a decade.

coconut and vanilla on the nose..reminds me of suntan lotion smell!! on the palate, extracted, but not out of balance. Definitely modern style wine.
