International Wine Cellar | Rating: 94($110) Dark ruby. Strongly perfumed scents of exotic cherry-cola, blackberry, vanilla and Asian spices. Weighty but focused dark fruit flavors offer striking clarity and palate-staining concentration, with soft tannins building on the close. The cola quality lingers on the long, sweet finish. This wonderfully balances richness and vivacity. (Eric Solomon Selections, Charlotte, NC)Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: September/October 2007
Jancis Robinson | Rating: 17Cask sample. For this vintage they started to use less new oak. Sweeter, more jagged, more exaggerated than the regular 2004 bottling which I prefer at this stage, although the PS wine may settle down and eventually have a longer life (hence the + sign). Almost perfumey. Rich. This may well develop into something even more exciting than the 2001 PS.Author: Jancis Robinson
Wine Spectator | Rating: 95Expressive and intense, this impressive red marries elegance and power, delivering rich flavors of blackberry, pomegranate, dark chocolate, mineral and spice over ripe, firm tannins. The texture is as smooth as velvet, the finish long and sweet.Author: Thomas Matthews
Wine Advocate | Rating: 98The 2004 Aalto PS is expressive aromatically, on the palate this voluptuous wine reveals elegance combined with power. Large in scale but light on its feet, it has beautiful balance, density, and concentration. It can be enjoyed now but should evolve for 12-15 years and drink well through 2050.Author: Jay Miller
Founded in 1999 and located in Ribera del Duero, on Spain's north-central plateau, Bodegas Aalto produces critically acclaimed wines from old vine (30- to 90-years old) Tempranillo. Aged for two or more years in a combination of new and neutral French and American oak, Aalto's wines are on track to compete with the neighboring Ribera estates of Vega Sicilia and Tinto Pesquera.
