Complex, with a mix of creamy vanilla-tinged oak, dried currant, herb, pencil lead and sage notes that are tight and tannic, ending with a mineral and pebble aftertaste. Well-balanced.

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) possesses a sweet, jammy bouquet of black currants intermixed with barbecue smoke, tobacco, espresso, and herbs. It offers a sexy, fleshy entry, but falls off at the back of the palate. Although heady, with plenty of superficial, up-front fruit, there is not much substance or follow through on the palate. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Lack luster and un refined. Overly tannic with no fruit.

Most unique taste at the Cali wine experience with minty vanilla flavors. Less pronounced this time, but still present in the lingering finish. A cabernet like no other (margarine on Wonder bread according to one person at our table)

Nose of black fruit and berries. Deep rouge color. Very traditional Napa Cab. Just delicious. Enjoyed with BBQ Lamb chops. Wow. I did decant it 1.5 hours before serving.

One of the better 03 cabs I've had. Trademark oak/vanilla dominated this wine, was very smooth but not very complex, fiish was ok

Opaque mauve in color, this Silver Oak offering hits your nose hard with big berry aromas and hints of old leather and even slighter hints of black licorice. The wine is fruit forward yet still maintains its |dryness| with flavors of sandalwood and cranberry on the mid-palate. The wine has a medium to long finish with lingering oak, forest floor, and musty flavors.

Product Notes: 2003 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750ml |Full-bodied, chewy, and muscular with an inky dark ruby/plum color, and hints of wood smoke, tobacco, cinnamon, espresso roast, and herbs, this dense, chewy, lavishly oaked wine should drink well for 10-12 years.|Robert Parker 93 |The 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and concentrated wine that deftly balances intensity and finesse. The wine has a dark garnet color with a deep purple edge, and displays aromas of blackberry jam, dark chocolate, rose petal, black pepper and cedar. In the mouth, the attack is quite rich, expressing notes of brown sugar and nutmeg, and the flavors proceed seamlessly to a long finish of fruit and ripe tannins. Properly cellared, this wine should give drinking pleasure until 2027.| Daniel Baron, Winemaker

Strong florals, but lacking in complexity. Very good wine, but disappointed based on price

Silver Oak was founded in the early 1970s by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer, a former winemaker with Christian Brothers. The founders' goal was to create exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon that would be distinguished by its elegance and finesse. In most years, the wines are made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from the Alexander and Napa Valleys. The developing wine is aged 30 months in American Oak barrels and then cellared about 15 months before release. Silver Oak aims to make a velvety style Cabernet that is drinkable upon release. In addition to the well-known Alexander and Napa Valley Cabernets, Silver Oak has also produced North Coast and Bonny's Vineyard Cabernets in select vintages. After 30 years of partnership between Ray and Justin, the Duncan family is currently the sole owner of the property.
