  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91

($115) Bright ruby-red. Aromas of plum, currant, spice box, mocha and tobacco leaf are distinctly Old World. Ripe, creamy and rich, with a pliant texture and expressive flavors of currant, sweet plum and tobacco. Finishes ripely tannic, spicy and long, with hints of fresh herbs and chocolate. A lovely 2003, and a great success for this winery.

Minty, herbal and lean, with underripe Cabernet flavors that turn austere and tannic, making this chewy and tough. Decant. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Drinks well - open and drink directly from the bottle! Ofcourse better to let breathe!

The Rubicon Estate Winery (formerly Niebaum-Coppola Winery and Inglenook Winery) is located in Rutherford, California in the heart of Napa Valley. The winery sits on a portion of the historic Napa property first acquired in 1879 by Finnish Sea Captain Gustave Niebaum, founder of the Inglenook Winery.

In 1975, Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased Niebaum's Victorian home, along with 120 acres of surrounding vineyards. In 1995, Coppola reunited the two original Inglenook parcels by purchasing the grand Inglenook chateau and surrounding vineyards (neighboring vineyards now include Heitz Wine Cellars Martha's Vineyard and Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour). The winery underwent a name change in early 2006, and is now known as Rubicon Estate.
