($46-$55) Good deep red-ruby. Captivating aromas of black raspberry, violet, minerals, smoke and nutty oak. Fat, broad and opulent but not overly sweet; manages to retain its typical aromatic quality even in this hot year, no doubt partly due to the fact that this wine gets minimal racking. Wonderfully easy to drink already and probably best suited for consuming over the next seven or eight years.

A terrific St.-Emilion, the 2003 boasts blockbuster power and tremendous richness, yet also freshness and surprising elegance for such a hot year. A dense purple color is followed by a glorious nose of espresso roast, sweet blackberry jam, plums, and figs. Full-bodied, rich, and multilayered, with tremendous purity as well as length, it should be drinkable early in life, yet last for 15+ years.

  • Jancis Robinson | Rating: 17

Mid purplish crimson, Meaty nose with more layers than the rest. There is a depth that is lacking in the other St Emilions and a little dryness towards the end. I a good way! Dry and neat and savoury, well kept in check for the long term! Serious stuff.

Thick and spicy, with lots of fruit, almost jammy but racy. Full-bodied, soft and seductive. This is very serious indeed. Exciting stuff. This small producer makes fine handmade wines.

A favorite from St. Emilion, this wine offers that complex matrix of accessibility and age-worthiness inherent to this appellation. Since Eric Prissette a former football player - European style - bought the property in 1994, there has been an intense focus on producing "the most magnificent, flamboyant, and concentrated wines possible." To that end, the wine sees frequent punch-downs during fermentation, malolactic fermentation and aging in 100% new oak on the lees, and micro-oxygenation. The high caliber of these wines contrasts sharply their thoroughly reasonable prices. This is an 85-90% Merlot production, so expect a plush entry and roundness of palate.
