($90) Bright, deep red-ruby. Lively aromas of black cherry, minerals, chocolate and mint; cooler and less evolved than the Cailles. Subtle, juicy and classy, showing grand cru palate presence and finesse. These is the least 2003-like in style of these wines today. Subtle, slow-mounting, very long finish features late-arriving, very smooth tannins.

A supremely elegant and pure ripe red pinot fruit nose combines with medium full flavors that seem as though they are the distilled essence of pinot and while this is exceptionally ripe, it seems to give away nothing in terms of either elegance or precision. This is one big wine, indeed almost massive with superb power and grand cru caliber length yet everything remains in perfect balance. A great, great effort for the vintage and one to buy.
