($56) Good deep red. Sweet nose offers raspberry, cherry and milk chocolate. Fat, lush and sweet, with a soft, pliant, immediately accessible texture and enticing flavors of ripe red fruits. Ripe and aromatic merlot, finishing with dusty, sweet tannins and lovely length.

A blend of 52% Napa and 48% Sonoma fruit (the vineyard traverses the county lines), the 2003 Merlot exhibits notes of sweet oak, mocha, and berry fruit in its pretty, elegant, tasty, medium-bodied, plump personality.

An openly seductive style, with ripe currant, blackberry and wild berry fruit shaded by splashy mocha and espresso bean oak flavors. It's complex and concentrated, but also quite tannic, so if you pull the cork tonight, decant an hour. 5,200 cases made.

Decanted for an hour. A littel tight. I think this wine needs more time in the bottle to calm down. Try again in late '0711/27/06-Getting better. Is developing bnicely. Wait until next year.

Deep purple almost black color. Unusually full bodied for a Merlot. Gobs of chocolate and black cherry. Nice long finish to it. Overall a extremely well structured and balanced wine. Just what I would expect from Pride Mountain.

Nice, fleshy merlot. Drank side by side with Bond. It held up nicely.

Pride Mountain Vineyards sits high atop the Mayacamas Mountains straddling the Napa/Sonoma county line. Located at the site of historic Summit Ranch, where wine grapes have been grown since 1869, this beautiful setting includes wine caves dug deep into the mountains and the haunting ruins of an old stone winery dating to 1890.

Founded in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride, Pride Mountain Vineyards is recognized as one of the "world's greatest wine estates" by Robert Parker, Jr., joining just 22 other California wineries for this distinction. Pride wines have appeared numerous times on The Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the World list, and have been served at the White House more than 30 times during the last two decades.

In 2004, second-generation siblings Suzanne Pride Bryan and Steve Pride took the reins, furthering Pride Mountain Vineyards' tradition of producing highly lauded wines. In the cellar, winemaker Sally Johnson and her team work with the property's exceptional estate-grown cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, syrah, sangiovese and chardonnay to produce world-class cuvees deserving of a place in any serious collector's cellar.
