($80) Deep, bright, violet-tinged color. Powerful scents of kirsch, roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, bacon fat and candied violet. Fabulously rich and concentrated, with densely packed but pure and precise flavors of berries, plum, cherry cola, floral pastille and charred meat. This sees only 5% oak. Finishes ripe and thick, with very persistent roasted berry flavors.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: January/February 2006Wine Spectator | Rating: 95
Really silky for an '03, with gorgeous raspberry ganache and cassis fruit that glides atop grilled herb, mineral and tar flavors. Long, authoritative finish shows lots of grip and fruit. A powerful yet racy wine. This really rocks. 1,000 cases made.Author: James MolesworthWine Advocate | Rating: 98
The best bottle of this I've had (and I've had plenty), Usseglio's 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a blockbuster and one of the true stars of this vintage. Almost all Grenache (there's a small part of Syrah and Cinsault) that was harvest between September 1-13, partially destemmed and aged in both tank and foudre, this massive, voluptuous effort is almost overflowing with notes of ground herbs, chocolate dusted meats, black fruits and licorice. Showing none of the negative traits of the vintage, with beautiful purity and freshness, sweet tannin, and a great finish, enjoy this utterly hedonistic beauty over the coming 4-5 years.Author: Jeb Dunnuck

Beautiful and complex wine. Great with food.Author: JohnnymdSelf | Rating: 95
certainly a terrific wine but 100pts? a modern interpretation of CDP--less structured than I would have liked--preferred the Linne Calodo S&S this nightAuthor: MJMSelf | Rating: 95
Nice CdP with a musky fruit nose and a full palate -pervading finish. Drinking very well right now.Drink Dates: 2012-2019Author: DartAdamSelf | Rating: 93
Nose is somewhat blunted red fruit with tobacco and trace menthol. Palate jammy with obvious tobacco. Aftertaste of dark chocolate that surprises. Structure is good but balance a little tipped to tasting hot in spite of alcohol 14.5% according on the label.Author: Mike N296Self | Rating: 95

Translucent medium red with some purple highlights. Very full but stinky nose of burnt rubber, flat plum, licorice, syrupy black raspberry, and butterscotch. The burnt rubber for the most part blows off with a little air leaving a much more attractive and boisterously fruity wine. Tannins are rustic but there is tons of fruit here to try and offset them. Excellent levels of acidity. Very fine length but unfortunately the wine turns raisiny on the finish. The Cuv?e is 95% Grenache with 5% Syrah and Cinsault. It comes from 75-90 year old vines. It was raised in tank before being put into glass without filtration.Drink Dates: 2009-2015+Author: Daniel B
