Aromas of currants, berries and light tobacco follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with light cedar and earth. Good but not exciting.

Impressively deep colour. Very healthy look with attractive freshness on the nose. Sweet palate entry but then some very dry tannins are apparent and there's a note of overripeness on the palate. Grainy tannins and a very sudden end. Not integrated.

The only time I tasted the 2003 Reserve de la Comtesse out of bottle, it was somewhat monolithic and superficial, but charming and well-endowed. A 46% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc cuvee, it is well-made and can be over the next 8-10 years.

Consumed at XIV. Not bad. Very strong and complex, with very strong masculine / tobacco flavor that finishes with a very nice and creamy vanilla smoothness. very nice complexity and subtleties.

Still harsh on the finish. Little fruit left and I usually like |lower level| fruit Bordeaux. This was a decidedly average bottle.

This is a good drinking bottle of wine that is delicious, uncomplicated and very straight forward. The wine has a decent and rather aromatic note of red fruit with a little bit of earthiness, also creamy, as if some vanilla ice cream was added into the mix. It was the type of wine that I can finish quickly, but there is not a whole lot of substance to this wine nor is there anything thought provoking. On the palate, nice flavor of cinnamon toast that is slightly blackened, not too much though, with good creaminess to it. In a way, drinking this wine is like going to a bakery shop a little bit. Decent structure and body, but I am not sure how long this wine will last though. Definitely a good and solid B-level wine and I would have given it a higher B+ / 87 point score if not for the price of it (seriously, that is just too much for a second wine of a Bordeaux Chƒteau, even if it is from a very good vintage. The perfect wine for a Thursday night dinner and hanging out at home. A blend of 46% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Pichon Lalande, known as one of the greatest Bordeaux vineyards, has been maintained by the same family for more than 250 years. Located in Pauillac, it was deemed a Second Growth wine estate during Bordeaux Classification of 1855. Its location between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean is ideal for growing grapes. These two masses of water help keep the air moving, which reduces the chance of rainfall, while the particular microclimate surrounding the Chateau is relatively dry, allowing the grapes to fully ripen on the vine. The climate, concentration of the grapes, and the blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot result in wines with exceptional structure and, therefore, great aging potential. Pichon Lalande's second wine is the Reserve de la Comtesse and its third wine is Les Gartieux.
