2003 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / SONOMA
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90
($70) Hazy, full yellow-gold. Superripe aromas of pineapple, apricot, lemon cream and exotic spices. Concentrated, thick flavors of tropical fruits firmed by an edge of acidity. Began a bit salty and phenolic but grew fresher and showed more minerality as it opened in the glass. A bit edgy on the aftertaste. From an old Wente clone planted in Kent Ritchie's Poplar Vineyard.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2005Wine Spectator | Rating: 90
A well-oaked style. Nicely done, with lots of creamy vanilla wood flavors wrapped around a center of ripe apple and pear fruit. Finishes with a splash of pineapple and guava, which is the most fascinating aspect.Drink Dates: 2005-2009Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 93
The 2003 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast (basically made from an old Wente Chardonnay clone of 30-year-old vines planted in the Ritchie Vineyard) is great stuff. A full-bodied, honeyed nose of pastry, lemon butter, and orange marmalade is followed by a wine with wonderful stuffing, richness, texture, full body, and a Burgundy-like minerality. The good news is there are 700 cases of this stunning effort.Author: Robert Parker

Pahlmeyer started over 20 years ago when former trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer decided to turn his passion for wine into a career in Napa Valley. After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux, Pahlmeyer returned to the United States and produced his first wine (a Bordeaux blend) in 1986. Under the guidance of Pahlmyer, and current winemaker Erin Green, this reputation endures, annually establishing the estate as one of the finest producers of Bordeaux blends, Merlot, and Chardonnay in California.
