($57) Full deep red. Nuanced aromas of strawberry, plum, smoke, resiny oak and forest floor. Sweet, concentrated and light on its feet, with an intriguing herbal element contributing to the impression of grip. There's nothing fat or heavy about this California pinot. Finishes with sappy raspberry fruit. Also tasted: 2003 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast.

This wine shows off a deftly balanced mix of raspberry and black cherry fruit that's intense, vibrant and marked by excellent acidity and tannins. On the finish, the flavors come together nicely, with hints of anise and sage. 560 cases made.
