($75; 66% cabernet sauvignon, 28% syrah and 6% petit verdot) Bright, dark red. Liqueur-like yet lively aromas of blackberry, maraschino cherry, graphite, violet, licorice and dark chocolate. Very suave and silky, with lovely acids leavening the wine's sweetness. Began a bit youthfully grapey, but the black fruitflavors were joined by spices, pepper and licorice as the wine opened in the glass. Very long, very ripe and impressive. Asseo describes this wine as his interpretation of Paso Robles.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: July/August 2005Wine Spectator | Rating: 91
Dense and concentrated, with great balance and depth to the dried currant, spice, anise and wild berry fruit. Excellent structure, too, with lively acidity and firm tannins joining a hint of cedar and tobacco. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot.Drink Dates: 2006-2012Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 94
The inky/purple-tinged 2003 Estate Cuvee (66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah, and 6% Petit Verdot) exhibits a restrained/reticent bouquet. With coaxing, lovely aromas of camphor, cassis, truffles, and vanilla emerge from this full-bodied, powerful, sweet blend. It boasts both profound depth and formidable structure.Drink Dates: 2007-2022Author: Robert Parker

kind of disjoint in the beginningAuthor: Seaway J
Stephan Asseo's adventure began in 1982 with a winemaking education from L'Ecole Oenologique de Macon in Bugundy and the subsequent establishment of a small empire in Bordeaux, including Chateau Fleur Cardinal. With a true desire to be more innovative than the French AOC law would allow, Asseo gained a reputation as a maverick vigneron and set out a world wide quest for great terroir.
After searching for over a year, the St. Emilion native fell in love with the unique terroir of Paso Robles and built L'Aventure Winery to pursue his ideals as a winemaker. L'Aventure's flagship Estate Cuvee (a blend of Cabernet and Syrah) has incredible track record 94-98 point scores each vintage since 2002. Robert Parker has reported that Asseo "continues to go from strength to strength, producing a fabulous portfolio of wines that makes L'Aventure one of the bright, shining reference points for the region. This is one of the California Central Coast superstars, and the wines are worth every cent."
