The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a delicious offering from this vineyard on the eastern hillsides of Napa Valley that is farmed by David Abreu with consulting work from Heidi Barrett. The wine offers plenty of blueberry, black raspberry and black currant fruit, a full-bodied opulence, a hint of minerality and a lush, heady finish. This sexy, fully mature 2003 can be drunk over the next 5-6 years.

Jones Family Vineyards was established in 1996 as a family run winery with the singular focus to produce the finest Cabernet based wines from their special vineyards. Their location on a south facing hillside between St. Helena and Calistoga in the northern Napa Valley provides the ideal combination of soil and climate for the development of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vineyard manager David Abreu and winemakers Heidi Barrett and Thomas Rivers Brown have worked to maximize the potential of the unique location to produce two outstanding wines, the Jones Family Vineyards Cabernet, and a Cabernet blend wine, The Sisters.

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
