2003 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley
AUSTRALIA / SOUTH AUSTRALIA /
Wine Advocate | Rating: 93
Deep garnet-black in color, the 2003 Amon-Ra has warm blackberry preserve, dusty earth and red loam aromas highlighted by tobacco, cigar box and yeast extract notes. Framed by medium to firm levels of velvety tannins, the fruit flavors are big, full and rich giving a very opulent and voluptuous mouth-feel. It finishes long with a little note of prune. Drink it now until 2017+.Author: Lisa Perrotti-BrownWine Spectator | Rating: 93
Firm, but remarkably generous and pure, with richly articulated cherry, raspberry jam and licorice flavors that linger impressively on the meaty finish. Needs time to sort itself out. 400 cases made.Author: Harvey SteimanJancis Robinson | Rating: 17
This is Ben Glaetzer?s super-modern Shiraz ? full-on fruit matured in French oak (which is being used more and more for all the Glaetzer wines). This uses Ebenezer fruit, too, but to very different effect ? much more dramatic and sweet, and at alcohol levels not much below 15 per cent. Very sweet and mocha ? perhaps best drunk as a nightcap.Author: Jancis Robinson
