2003 Domaine Gérard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes 1er Cru
FRANCE / BURGUNDY / GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN
Vinous | Rating: 90
(Raphet's parcel is just off the Route des Grands Crus on the Latricieres side of this appellation) Good full ruby-red. Deep nose shows an almost roasted ripeness, with notes of coffee and mocha dominating. Deep, broad and rather powerful, with the medicinal, briary, slightly liqueur-like black fruit flavors currently overshadowed by torrefaction. Not yet showing a lot of personality but certainly broad and fat. This rather serious premier cru also seems to be shutting down.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: Mar 2006Wine Advocate | Rating: 90
This estate is blessed with some of Burgundy’s oldest parcels. Produced from 100-year old vines, the 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes Cuvee Unique displays aromas of spicy dark fruits. A fleshy, structured, medium-bodied wine, it is packed with red cherries and currants. Loaded with ripe tannin, it will require some patience. Drink it between 2008 and 2014.Author: Pierre RovaniIssue: 160
