($75-$100) Good ruby-red. Blackberry, violet, minerals and graphite on the nose. Very full on the palate, with compelling sweetness and a slightly exotic character. Finishes with a note of roasted oak and a slight raisiny nuance. Less floral than it appeared to be a year ago from barrel. The Mugnerets began the harvest with this vineyard, picking on August 25, the last day before the very warm temperatures moderated.

Very subtle oak hints highlight notes of earth, leather, cassis, plum jam and game as well as pretty ripe red pinot fruit aromas and sweet, spicy, round and cassis-infused medium full flavors that possess better overall concentration as well as length. That said, this is still a creature of its vintage as the ripeness may become more apparent with bottle age though for the moment, there is good freshness and the flavors are sufficiently round that this could almost be drunk now even though I would personally be inclined to wait.
